Watch me ramble through identifying a faulty fuel injector (blowing white smoke at idle) on my Land Rover Discovery 3. Apologies for the length but i figure 1996 Land Rover Discovery has no injector pulse. The alarm isn't armed. I have 40 PSI at the fuel rail with the key on and ~35 PSI while cranking. I am getting power to the injectors and am getting spark. It will run if I give it a shot of starting fluid but won't stay running.
Today after approx 50km it did it again, and I pulled over and switched off for a while. Next start, it shut itself down immediately with an engine fault: P062D-11 (AF) Fuel injector driver circuit performance - bank 1 - General electrical failure - circuit short to ground.

My 2003 Land Rover Discovery II only 4 of the 5 injectors (the green ones part # MSC000030) have "passed away". with subsequent problems. As long as you are replacing them, get yourself to eBay and buy a set of Mustang 19# injectors. Absolutely replace the o-rings; it is cheap insurance! You will appreciate the difference in performance and gas mileage, plus it actually makes the exhaust cleaner! A fellow member's car has developed serious rough running problem (from. tickover to high rpm), significant power loss (fifth gear was out of. question when inclines had to be dealt with, car could not start to drive on. second gear and had to be revved to 1200 rpm so as to drive on first gear. and LOTS of black smoke on almost rpm when the P2290 injector control pressure too low. U2023 (gearbox) fault received from external node. P0101 mass or volume air flow - circuit range/performance. p000E fuel volume regulator control exceeded learning limit. Vehicle: 2012 Range Rover Supercharged - 5.0L V8 - 115,535 Miles. Location: SW Michigan. Chain of events: (Apr-03-2012): Timing chain and tensioner repair done. Found out that this is a common problem with these 5.0L engines and there is a class action lawsuit with LR on them.
