16-inch MacBook Pro (2019) — best overall Mac for development. Apple desktop machines are great for programming, but it’s hard to beat the flexibility of a MacBook. And while the 13-inch Intel and M1 Macs are both powerful enough, they’re a little smaller than we’d like for our marathon coding sessions. So the 16-inch MacBook Pro (2019 I can get the MAX for about $200 more right now. oolala11 • MacBook Pro 14" Silver M1 Max • 9 mo. ago. I mean 200 isn't bad, but it's up to you if you want to spend the extra 200. Personally I would only upgrade to Max if you want 64GB RAM or need the extra GPU. But at the thickest point, it measures 0.63 inches, which is actually bigger than the Pro. In comparison, the 13-inch MacBook Pro is 0.61 inches thick, but its thickness stays uniform across the entire frame. In terms of weight, there’s not much difference between the two. Beyond their chips, the early 2023 MacBook Pro introduced support for Wi‑Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and HDMI 2.1, and added an extra hour of battery life. The late 2023 MacBook Pro added an extra 100
From the outside, the Apple MacBook Pro 16-inch (2023) is identical to the MacBook Pro 16-inch (2021), with the same dimensions of 0.66 x 14.01 x 9.77 inches (1.68 x 35.57 x 24.81cm) and a weight
The 14-inch MacBook Pro is believed to adopt the improved thermals of the current 16-inch MacBook Pro model, with a larger heat pipe, added thermal pads, and a 35 percent larger heat sink.
Price isn’t a big deal, I can pay $1000-$1500. But by no means do I need the most powerful MacBook out there, just one that can handle programming quite well. With that being said, I’m looking at the 2020 M1 MacBook Air, and 2020 M1 MacBook Pro. The air looks to be just about $1000, while the pro would be closer to the $1500 mark.
2023 MBP M2 Max is expected in March. They'll be more expensive than a current MBP M1 due to sales and likely price increases on the new models. That being said, I'm holding out for the M2 to replace my decade old MBP. If they are on sale in Europe like the US definitely get the 14”. I’ve seen them for $1500 here.
Yes. I use a $400 Ryzen 3 based laptop and that's perfectly fine for programming. There's no need for high end laptops (w/ dedicated GPUs) for anything except gaming and video production. The only reason I bought that is because my last laptop ($550 in 2014) was starting to show its age.
